The Southern Deanery

The Southern Deanery is geographically located in the South of the Diocese and South West of the country. The Deanery’s footprint stretches from Gwanda town through to Gwanda south where Manama Mission is located. It covers Beitbridge municipality including Beitbridge west where Zezani Mission is located. It also extends to the end of Beitbridge East where Tshituliphasi parish is located. The Southern Deanery consists of 16 parishes and 118 Congregations. 2 of the 16 parishes are located in urban areas namely the Beitbridge and Gwanda. The Deanery has 2 Mission parishes, Manama and Zezani, and 1 mining and farming area parish, West Nicholson. 11 parishes are purely rural. The membership of the rural parishes is generally affected by the economic migration of young people to nearby towns and neighbouring countries, South Africa and Botswana.

The Southern Deanery is home to 6 primary and secondary schools namely, Manama Primary School, Manama High School, Zezani High School, Beitbridge Primary School, West Nicholson Primary School, and Madzhioni Primary School.

In addition, the Deanery is home to the Manama Bible school, Manama Hospital and Thusanang Trust, a Diaconia arm of the Western Diocese.  The Deanery has 20 pastors manning the parishes, as well as chaplains for the schools and a principal of the Manama Bible school.

Activities
The Deanery has major activities planned for the year 2023. The major activity is the Easter revival, where all parishes will gather at Manama High School. The Deanery Day fundraising will be held in June 2023. All the organs in the Deanery have revival activities lined up for the year as well as cluster revivals.

Projects
There are several projects in the parishes both income-generating projects and capital projects. The Deanery has a cattle project (income-generating) that currently has 5 cows and 3 calves. On capital projects, the main focus is on the building of the Deanery house in Spitzkop, Gwanda. There is also an ongoing fundraising campaign aimed at buying the Deanery vehicle as well as plans to renovate the Deanery house in Manama.
